Last time I was in France I wrote a post about the common roof details you see on the renaissance Chateaux, here. It was – as you’d imagine – completely fascinating. But wait, there’s more! Looking at the drainage, or lack of, from the roof to the ground, I found examples of hardware which sheds water away from the soft stone of the building. These stone or lead sculptures pour rainwater earthward, or into the surrounding moats. They’ve added modern galvanised drainpipe to the first one.
NB, that’s not a really realistic depiction of a pigeon rendered in lead, it’s just a pigeon.
